SelfLink is designed with your privacy as a core principle. Your personal data stays on your device. All artificial intelligence processing runs entirely on your iPhone using an on-device model — your journal entries, reflections, companion conversations, and all other personal content are never transmitted to any external server for AI processing.
SelfLink uses the Liquid AI LFM2 model, which is bundled directly inside the app (~1.5 GB). This model powers all AI features, including:
Because the model runs locally on your device, none of your journal content, companion conversations, or AI-generated insights are ever sent to the internet. No cloud-based AI service is used.
All personal data is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's SwiftData framework and UserDefaults. This includes:
This data is stored in Apple's Application Support directory and persists across app updates. It is never uploaded to any server. You can delete all of this data at any time from the Settings screen.
SelfLink requires no internet connection for its core functionality. The only features that use a network connection are:
Send Feedback (optional) — If you choose to send feedback from Settings, the message, name, and email address you type are transmitted to a feedback service (Sentry). Only the information you explicitly enter is sent. SelfLink does not attach any journal content, device identifiers, usage data, or other personal information to this submission.
Visit Reality Play Website (optional) — Tapping this button in Settings opens the Reality Play website (realityplay.io/selflink) in an in-app browser. Standard web browsing data applies as governed by your browser and the website's own privacy policy.
Location Search (optional) — If you choose to tag a journal entry with a location, the search uses Apple's MapKit service to look up place names. This is handled entirely by Apple's built-in frameworks and is subject to Apple's privacy policy. SelfLink only stores the place name you select — not GPS coordinates or raw location data.
App Store Ratings (optional) — Tapping "Rate SelfLink," or responding to the occasional in-app rating prompt, uses Apple's App Store to record your rating or open the review page. This is handled entirely by Apple and is subject to Apple's privacy policy. No journal content or personal information is shared.
No other network requests are made by SelfLink.
SelfLink does not run any form of:
The Sentry SDK is included solely for optional user-initiated feedback submission. All automatic data collection features of the SDK (crash handling, session tracking, breadcrumbs, network monitoring, app hang tracking, and session replay) are explicitly disabled in the app's configuration.
Location access is entirely optional. If you grant permission, SelfLink can suggest your current city or area name when creating a journal entry. Only the human-readable place name (e.g. "San Francisco") is saved with the entry — not your precise GPS coordinates. You can also manually type or search for a location without granting device location access. You may revoke location permission at any time in your device's Settings.
If enabled, SelfLink schedules local notifications on your device to remind you to journal. These are local notifications — they do not use push notification servers, and no data is sent to any server to deliver them. Notification content (including optional AI-generated quotes) is generated on-device.
When you enable personalization, SelfLink records your thumbs up/down feedback on AI-generated insights. This feedback is stored locally and analyzed by the on-device AI model to learn your preferences for tone, length, and style of insights. No feedback data is transmitted externally. You can reset or delete all personalization data at any time from Settings.
You have full control over your data:
Export — You can export your data (journal entries, reflections, companion conversation transcripts, feedback, indicators, and insights) in JSON or plain text format at any time. Photos attached to journal entries are not included in exports.
Delete — You can permanently delete all personal data from the app with a single action in Settings. This removes all journal entries, reflections, companion sessions, feedback, indicators, and insights from your device. App preferences such as theme and notification settings are retained.
No Account Required — SelfLink does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal information to use the app.
SelfLink includes the following third-party components:
Liquid AI LeapSDK — Runs the on-device AI model. All processing is local; no data is sent to Liquid AI.
Sentry SDK — Used exclusively for optional, user-initiated feedback submission. All automatic data collection features are disabled. Sentry only receives data when you explicitly choose to send feedback, and only the message, name, and email you enter are transmitted.
No advertising SDKs, social media SDKs, or analytics platforms are included in the app.
SelfLink does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since all data is stored locally on the device and no account creation is required, the app does not distinguish between users of different ages. Parents and guardians should supervise their children's use of the app.
