Reality Walk turns the walking you already do into a journey around a virtual globe. We built it to collect as little as possible: you can use the whole app without an account, there are no passwords, no advertising, and no cross-app tracking. This policy explains what little data exists and what happens to it.
With your permission, Reality Walk reads your step count, walking and running distance, and step length from Apple HealthKit to draw your journey. This data is processed and cached on your device only.
We never write to HealthKit, and your HealthKit data is never sold, never shared with third parties, never used for advertising or marketing, and never used for any purpose other than showing your own progress. The only derived value that leaves your device is a single number — your lifetime walking distance total — and only if you create an optional account (see below).
Reality Walk never accesses your device's GPS or real-time location, and never tracks your movements. During onboarding you choose a starting "anchor" by typing an address, which Apple's geocoding service converts to a single map coordinate on your device. The address text you type is only ever stored on your device — it is never uploaded.
The position of your walker on the globe is a virtual point computed purely from how far you have walked; it is not your physical location. However, if you create an account (see below), your chosen anchor coordinate and your current virtual position are stored on our servers so that the friends you accept can see your journey drawn on their globe. If you never create an account, none of this leaves your device.
An account is optional and is only needed for the friends feature — your globe, your journey, and milestones all work without ever signing in. When you do create an account, you do so with Sign in with Apple, and Apple provides us with an email address for that account. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email" option, this is a private Apple relay address rather than your real email.
We store this email solely through our authentication provider so we can identify your account and let you sign back in on a new device. We never email you marketing, never use the address for advertising or profiling, and never sell or share it. No password is ever created or stored — authentication is handled entirely by Apple — and we do not collect your name, phone number, or any other Apple ID details.
If you create an account, we also store a profile for the friends feature: a unique account identifier, your username, your chosen walker character, your lifetime walking distance total, your starting anchor coordinate and the journey "lap style" you have chosen (together these let your friends draw your path on their globe), the virtual coordinates of your walker on the globe, and the country or ocean that virtual point is currently in. Aside from the email described above, no password, phone number, or real name is collected. This data is visible only to friends you have explicitly accepted (maximum of three).
Account data is stored with Supabase, our hosting and authentication provider, on servers located in the United States. All traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (TLS), and your session credentials are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your account, email, username, profile, and friendships are removed from our servers.
If you simply stop using the app, your account is automatically and permanently deleted after 60 days of inactivity. Your walking history itself always remains safely in Apple Health on your device, so nothing about your journey is ever lost — you can recreate an account at any time and your globe will be rebuilt from HealthKit.
To keep the app stable and understand how it is used, we use Sentry, a third-party diagnostics service, to collect crash reports together with anonymous performance and usage data — for example which screens and features are opened, and counts of active sessions. This information is not linked to your identity: it carries no name, email, username, or advertising identifier, and we have disabled the collection of personally identifying information. It is processed by Sentry on our behalf, used only to fix bugs and improve the app, and is never sold or used for advertising.
Reality Walk is completely free, with no in-app purchases or subscriptions, so we never handle payment information. The app contains no third-party advertising, no ad SDKs, and does not track you across other apps or websites. We do not sell, rent, or trade any personal data.
Reality Walk is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or erase your personal data. Because we hold so little, the simplest path is usually the in-app Delete Account button, which erases everything we have. For anything else, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.
If we change this policy, the new version will appear here with an updated date. Material changes will be highlighted in the app before they take effect.
